Henry S. Kim

Henry Kim is a museum professional who has led museums in the US, UK and Canada.

A classical archaeologist and ancient historian by training, he is known for his work in developing museum display strategies that highlight cultural connections and encourage cross-cultural dialogue.

He is Associate Vice Provost and Director of the Michael C. Carlos Museum at Emory University.

He was previously the Director and CEO of the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto from 2012 to 2020 where he was responsible for its construction and opening, and for leading it through its initial history. He managed its teams of experts and practitioners, and personally led major gallery, education and new creation artistic projects.

He began his career at the University of Oxford where he served as curator of Greek coins and university lecturer in Greek numismatics from 1994 to 2012.

From 2004 to 2011, he was the Project Director for the Ashmolean Redevelopment Project, a £70 million redevelopment and transformation of the museum.

He then created the University Engagement Programme, a three-year project sponsored by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation aimed at expanding the use of the museum’s collections in teaching across the university.
