Renaissance Globe Exhibition: Museum of Oxford

These vibrant sports-themed globes were created by people attending family days at the Museum of Oxford during the school holidays. The activities formed part of the Museum’s summer celebration of sport in Oxford, as well as the London 2012 Olympic Games. Families took inspiration from sports they enjoy and sporting heroes they admire. Participants drew, painted and stuck their own designs onto the part of the world which they felt was relevant to their chosen sport.

The globes were displayed in the Museum’s summer exhibition on the city’s sporting history, On Your Marks, Set… Go! This exhibition was researched, created, interpreted and curated by local community groups, and the globes made a fabulous addition to the diverse range of works on display.

‘I love how bright and colourful the globe looks. It was great fun sticking things on.’

‘I stuck something on the big globe. I felt part of something big.’
